Vibration Dampers are the most common & widely used system for limiting the Aeolian vibrations in overhead power conductors & earthwires. Dampers work on Newton’s energy principle. It is that mechanism which transforms the kinetic energy of the vibrating conductor or E/W in to heat in the messenger cable caused due to inter-strand frictions, which dissolves in air. Four resonance frequency dampers provide efficient damping throughout the range of Aeolian vibrations in conductors caused due to wind and reduces the various stresses / strain in conductor at suspension & tension points

Spacers are used to provide uniform spacing of the sub conductors to ensure consistent electrical characteristics & protection against wind induced Aeolian vibration & Sub-span oscillation. Rigid spacers are used in between jumpers while flexible spacers are used for line spans in conjunction with vibration dampers. They restore conductor spacing after release of external loads due to wind and electrostatic forces including the specified short circuit ratings, without permanent deformation or damage.
