Quality & Testing
KTHL is equipped with a full fledged testing laboratory to test transmission line Hardware Fittings & Accessories upto 400 KV. KTHL has installed all the testing equipments to carry out type, acceptance and routine tests on transmission line fittings in accordance with Indian and International specifications :-
Mechanical Testing
A.
Universal testing Machine vertical (FSA Make) : For Tensile, Compressive and bend test - 60 tonnes
B. Tensile Testing Machine Horizontal Type : For failing Load, slip test etc. - 60 tonnes
C.
Hardness Tester : For checking Hardness of various incoming materials. The hardness can be measured in Rockwell as well as BHN.
D. Torque Wrench : Used to Measure tightening torque applied on various clamps.
Electrical Testing
A.
Electrical Resistance / Conductvity : Micro Ohm Meter is used to measure percentage resistance with reference to equivalent length of conductor, for fittings duly installed on conductor. Armour Rods are checked for Conductivity in Percentage of IACS.
B.
Heat Cycle, Temperature Rise & Power Loss Test Equipment : Used for carrying out Heat Cycle, Temperature rise test as per the equivalent Span. The same equipment is also used for measuring Magnetic Power Loss of various items like Suspension Clamp, Vibration Damper etc.
Galvanising Testing
A.
Uniform Zinc Coating / CuSo4 Dip test as per IS : 2633 or other specifications.
B.
Coating Thickness Gauge : Elcometer is used to measure the thickness of zinc coating on various galvanised components.

Vibration Testing
This laboratory is equipped to carry out Dynamic Characteristics Test, Resonance Frequency Test, Fatigue Test on Vibration Dampers. Testing of Vibration Dampers & Spacers on test span is also conducted.
 
Metallurgical Testing
Microscope : Metallographic tests (Inclusion, Grain Size, Grainflow & Microstructure) are carried out on components to maintain the quality of various castings and forgings.
Non Destructive Testing
A.
Magnaspray Inspection Machine : Commonly known as MPI machine is used to detect surface & sub-surface cracks in ferrous components.
B.
Die Penetration Test Setup : This test is carried out to detect minute cracks which may appear in non-ferrous castings & welded items.
